Rainbow Six Siege Sledge: what he can do and how to use him

Sledge smash!

Sledge is probably the simplest operator to understand in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege. This SAS attacker operator has a big mallet and he's not afraid to tear down walls or barricades with it. He does however have a few things you should probably know about, in particular with which gadgets to take in and the guns he has on offer.

Sledge Operator guide

Sledge is an attacking operator whose focus is to use his big hammer to breach the enemy defences. He can be useful in a gunfight as well, though his weapons don't really complement his choice of skill. This guide will go over his stats, weapon loadouts, gadgets, and skill, as well as provide some guidance on how to use him effectively. For a more general gameplay overview, head to our Rainbow Six Siege guide hub.

Sledge's Stats

Armour: 2
Speed: 2

Sledge's Weapon Loadouts

Sledge has access to the M590A1 shotgun and the L85A2 assault rifle. Since his ability involves smacking down walls with his mighty hammer, the shotgun seems like an odd choice as it's louder, but you can always run it if you're planning to be a rush-down player. It's not really recommended you do this though as Rainbow Six Siege is more of a tactical game, so the assault rifle is a little better. His sidearms are the P226 MK 25 pistol and the SMG-11 machine pistol, which I tend to run the standard pistol for more control.

Sledge's Gadgets

His gadgets include the frag grenade and the stun grenade. If you're going around with a team and can coordinate an attack, then the stun grenade is a good option to be used straight after breaching a wall to disorientate the enemy for your team to pick off. That said, the frag grenade is also a good choice, although a lot more direct.

Sledge's Skill

Sledge's ability couldn't be more simple to understand: it's a big hammer. The Tactical Breaching Hammer, or "The Caber", is a massive mallet that has weapon degradation as it is used in the match. It can be used to breach walls and single lined floorboards, split double lined floorboards for shooting at things below you, destroying certain traps, and killing enemies.

Should I pick Sledge?

His mighty hammer presents Sledge as a hugely offensive attacker that aims to make a beeline for the objective in as short a distance as possible. Other attacking operators are more useful for sure, but Sledge is a simple one to understand for beginners and will no doubt be useful if used in coordination with your team. He is also far more useful in maps where there are a lot of wooden walls and floorboards.

Now that you know how to use Sledge, perhaps there's another operator that you're wondering how to use, or indeed how to counter. Head on back to our main Rainbow Six: Siege operators guide to find all the links to each individual operator, as well as an overview on the more universally useful ones and which ones beginners should consider learning.
