Rainbow Six Siege Montagne: what he can do and how to use him

Operators in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege come in many different flavours. GIGN attacker operator Montagne is one of the ultra-defensive ones, using his extendable shield to take all the hits from enemy gunfire. He may have few weapons or gadgets that complement his skill, so this guide will go over how his shield works and how to effectively use it.

Montagne is a walking wall. His shield aims to take as much heat from the defenders as possible so that his fellow attackers can nip in behind them and shoot them while you're distracting them. Montagne's Weapon Loadouts

Montagne only has one primary weapon and it's a purely defensive option - the extendable shield. This offers full protection from anything other than explosives or certain gadgets that interrupt his shield holding. His sidearms are the P9 or the LFP586 which much like Twitch, it boils down to personal preference.

Montagne's Gadgets

His gadget options are the smoke grenade and the stun grenade. Again, both are viable options for Montagne because he is primarily going to be taking the point and standing in front of gunfire. While smoke grenades can be slightly detrimental for your team, they do provide a bit of visible cover for your team should they need it.

Montagne's Skill

As mentioned in the weapons loadouts, the shield can be extended as his skill. This provides full protection from all gunfire, at the cost of being able to fire your sidearms. While completely invincible from the front to gunfire, he can be attacked from the sides or back as normal, so keeping mobile and talking to your team will maximise his effectiveness.

Should I pick Montagne?

Do you like talking to other people? If not, then don't pick Montagne, as he is best used when talking to other people to coordinate your attacks. When everyone is in sync, it'll take either explosives or some abilities to temporarily make him put his shield down, thus making the team vulnerable.
