Rainbow Six Siege Jäger: what he can do and how to use him

Threat neutralised

Pesky grenades keeping you pinned? Jäger is Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege's chief anti-grenade guy who can use his defence systems to neutralise any of your enemies more explosive throwables. He's a rather versatile defender, so this guide will give you the lowdown on exactly how his skill works and the weapons, gadgets, and tactics he has to bring to the team.

Jäger operator guide

With Jäger's ability being so useful for the defending team, it's easy to just plonk it down in the objective room or nearby and then go off hunting for enemies. This makes him a relatively simple operator to use, so new players can also check out our Rainbow Six Siege guide hub so they can live as long as possible once the ordinance destroyers have been deployed.

Jäger's Stats

Armour: 1
Speed: 3

Jäger's Weapon Loadouts

Jäger is somehow still the only defender that has access to an assault rifle - the 416-C Carbine. It packs a big punch and with the right attachments such as a silencer and a vertical grip, it can prove to be utterly devastating in the right hands. The shotgun he has access to - the M870, is pretty good for blowing up gaps in walls and has decent range on it, but the assault rifle is arguably better in most cases. His sidearm is the P12, which is okay and has a decent capacity.

Jäger's Gadgets

With access to the deployable shield and the barbed wire, it's probably better to go for the barbed wire to slow down enemy progress or to hide the devices he can put down. Since Jäger is a surprisingly good roamer, having a deployable shield doesn't make as much sense compared to the barbed wire, but it can be useful to bait grenade throws if you put it down in choke points to attempt to force their hand.

Jäger's Skill

As one of the more reactive operators, Jäger has the ADS-MKIV "Magpie". This allows him to intercept grenades before detonation. How it works is that he has several devices, each one that he can plant in order to pick off two grenades. It's perhaps handy to strategically place them in rooms where the objective is, reinforce the walls, and lay some kind of a trap with your gadgets. Some skills let off cluster charges, which are more than his ordinance destroyer can cope with, so be careful if up against those attackers.

Should I pick Jäger?

Jäger is a good choice for those who want to roam around a bit, while at the same time ensuring that the devices help the team in the long run. The "Magpie" has a surprising amount of effectiveness, such as being able to dispatch any thrown explosives, including EMP grenades. But the key thing is that it needs line of sight in order to work. Once you've done that though, his carbine is a very good gun, especially if you're sneaking around with a silencer.

Just who are those two attackers that can overwhelm Jäger's defence system? Head on over to our main Rainbow Six: Siege operators guide, which has links to each individual operator, as well as an overview on the more universally useful ones and which ones beginners should consider learning.
