Super Mega Baseball 2 delayed into 2018

Yerrrouttahere!

Oh no. Our Adam is on holiday this week, which means he won't see today's news that Super Mega Baseball 2 [official site] has been delayed. Which means that, rather than an e-mail from the developers, it'll likely be this post breaking that news to him. It's me telling him that the sequel to the ballbaser he quite likes won't come in September, and he'll have to wait until spring 2018. Which I have just done. Sorry, future Adam.

"As it often goes in game development there were unexpected hurdles," developers Metalhead Software said in today's announcement. They continued:

"We've been working around the clock to complete the game but there are still features that aren’t finished yet. And where we're sitting now, to release it by September would mean having to cut a lot of corners. And we do not want to give you a game that you won't be happy with.

"If we pushed, we could probably get a decent game out by the end of the year. But we released the original SMB in December so we know from experience that baseball in winter is a tough sell. We don't want to put ourselves (or the future of the game) in that position again, so we’ve decided to delay the game until 2018 when baseball is spinning up again."

On the bright side, they say this delay gives them more time to work on features that they were previously beyond their scope, "things like defensive shifts and additional art components." They'll also have time to run a beta.

As ever, better a delayed game than a wonky one. Right, Adam?
