Gran Turismo 7 Wins Out Against Forza Motorsport In Digital Foundry Face-Off

The rivalry between racing-sim behemoths Gran Turismo and Forza is more heated than ever with the latest releases from either series with Gran Turismo 7 and Forza Motorsport.

For both series, these games showcase either franchise at a new peak, not just regarding the gameplay, but in every visual detail and graphical improvement years of experience and current-gen hardware can showcase.

Less as a method of deciding which of these two games is the ‘better’ between them, and more as an academic technical exercise, Digital Foundry put the two head-to-head, comparing the cars and tracks that overlap between each game, and paying close attention to every aspect of them.

Digital Foundry’s John Linneman put both games through their paces on PS5 and Xbox Series X respectively, testing their accuracy, the quality of every ray-traced reflection and the quality and density of foliage among other aspects of the sim-racing experience.

In the end however, across all categories overall it was Gran Turismo 7’s day, not Forza Motorsport’s, with Polyphony Digital’s approach to simulating a real-life racing experience winning out.

Of course both are still excellent games, and as Linneman explains before getting into the meat of the video, this is just an academic exercise, because digging into the technical aspects of these games is the kind of thing him and the other members of Digital Foundry love.

That being said, it’s definitely a win for Polyphony to have Digital Foundry look on them and their work with Gran Turismo 7 more favourably than Forza Motorsport.
