Someone swatted a 12-year-old streamer

Fortnite Battle Royale

A 12-year-old boy has been swatted after a spike in subscribers to his YouTube channel. Police arrived at Peter ‘Rolly Ranchers’ Varady’s home after his channel grew from less than 1,000 subscribers to nearly 90,000, in just a couple of days.

Here’s why Fortnite’s Save the World mode needs saving.

In a twist of fate, Varady was paired with popular YouTuber Cizzorz, who has more than 800,000 subscribers, in a recent game of Fortnite Battle Royale. Cizzorz eventually encouraged his viewers to join Varady’s stream, sending his numbers skyrocketing to around 85,000.

Unfortunately, on Sunday February 18, police turned up at Varady’s home after someone called them during his stream, telling authorities that Varady and his mother were going to hang themselves. In the aftermath of the incident, a tearful Varady told viewers “I’m not sure I can even go on with YouTube anymore.” But has since decided that he will keep going with his channel.

When Cizzorz learned about the swatting, he tweeted to say “I hope whoever did it, rots in a cell.” Last year, a man was killed as a result of a swatting incident by Kansas police. The caller on that occasion, Tyler Barriss, was arrested last month, and faces a charge of involuntary manslaughter.
