Alfornada is a mountain town in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet that serves as base for the psychic-type gym leader, Tulip.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Alfornada gym (Tulip) guide
How to beat Tulip’s psychic-type Pokémon

If you’re going in order of difficulty, Tulip will be the seventh gym leader you face.
Alfornada gym challenge (Take on Emotional Spectrum Practice!)
This gym challenge is pretty simple. All you have to do is press the corresponding button to match Medicham and Dendra’s emotions before the time runs out.
After your training, you’ll battle one trainer with the following Pokémon:
- Gothita, level 43 (psychic)
- Kirlia, level 43 (psychic/fairy)
You’ll do more ESP training and then do another battle against the following Pokémon:
- Grumpig, level 43 (psychic)
- Medicham, level 43 (fighting/psychic)
Tulip gym leader battle
Tulip’s psychic-type team is as follows:
- Farigiraf, level 44 (normal/psychic)
- Espartha, level 44 (psychic)
- Gardevoir, level 45 (psychic/fairy)
- Florges, level 45 (fairy with psychic Tera Type)
Tulip gym battle counters
Tulip’s psychic-types leave her open to a lot of counters: bug-, dark-, and ghost-type moves are all super effective.
Luckily, there are plenty of ghost- and dark-type Pokémon nearby in the fields around the town or in the cave you have to cross to get to Alforana. We recommend any of the following:
- Banette (ghost)
South Providence (Area Six) - Drifblim (ghost/flying)
South Providence (Area Six) - Sableye (ghost)
South Providence (Area Six) - Deino (dark/dragon)
South Providence (Area Six)
Alfornada gym rewards
Once you beat Tulip, she’ll reward you with TM120 (Psychic) a very powerful special psychic-type move. If this is your seventh gym badge, Pokémon up to level 55 will obey you.
After Tulip’s gym, you can head to the last gym, which is Grusha’s Glaseado gym.
