Those looking to evolve Wurmple into Silcoon or Cascoon in Pokémon Go to complete the Bug Out! Collection Challenge will encounter a problem: You can’t choose or control which cocoon the worm turns into.

In mainline Pokémon games, Wurmple evolves into Cascoon or Silcoon depending on its personality value, an invisible stat that you can’t even check in game. But in Pokémon Go, Wurmple’s evolution is completely random, so you’ll just need to keep evolving new Wurmple until you get the evolution you want. Fortunately, Wurmple only costs 12 Wurmple Candy to evolve, so if you’re catching tons in an event (like the Pokémon Go Bug Out 2022 event, which is going on as we write this), you will have tons of spare candy to test your luck. If you need any extra candy, throw a Pinap Berry to double your Wurmple Candy haul.

Once you get Silcoon, you can use 50 Wurmple Candy to evolve it into Beautifly. If you get Cascoon, you can use 50 Wurmple Candy to evolve it into Dustox.

That being said, it makes sense that Pokémon Go’s evolution system for Wurmple is also completely random, even if it can result in a sad unlucky streak.

Why it mattersPokémon Go set the world alight in summer 2016. Thanks to its drip feed of Pokémon from each generation of games, the arrival of player battling, trading, and a variety of global community events, Niantic’s AR RPG is still going strong. So, yes — people are still playing Pokémon Go.
