How to evolve Pancham in Pokémon Go

Hello Dark-types, my old friends

Pokémon Go’s Luminous Legends event welcomes a few new Pokémon from the Kalos region to the mobile game, including Pancham, the Playful Pokémon. Similar to other recent additions to Pokémon Go, like Goomy, Spritzee, and Swirlix, evolving Pancham into Pangoro has an extra requirement. You can’t just use Candy to evolve your Pancham.

Evolving Pancham into Pangoro (its final form) requires 50 Pancham Candy, but Pokémon Go also notes that you must “Adventure together to evolve.” In Pancham’s case, that requires catching 32 Dark-type Pokémon while Pancham is your buddy. No problem, right? That all depends on how many Dark-type Pokémon are spawning.

Fortunately, shortly after Pancham arrives in Pokémon Go, Niantic will increase the number of Dark-type spawns. Starting May 18, Pokémon like Houndour and Carvanha will appear more often in the wild, and the Legendary Pokémon Yveltal (a Dark-type) will become available in raids. (You can also catch Dark-type Shadow Pokémon from Team Go Rocket grunts. If a grunt says “Wherever there is light, there is also shadow.” you’re in for a Dark-type fight.)

Other Dark-type Pokémon to watch out for include Deino, Murkrow, Poochyena, Purrloin, Sableye, Sneasel, and Stunky, as well as Alolan versions of Grimer, Meowth, Rattata, and Zigzagoon. Alolan Rattata will be showing up in droves during Spotlight Hour on Tuesday, May 18, from 6 p.m. to 6:59 p.m. local time.

How to catch Pancham

In order to get more Pancham Candy, you’re going to need to catch Pancham, walk with Pancham as your buddy, or use Rare Candy. Pancham will be appearing in one-star raids until May 17, at 8 p.m. local time, and can be hatched from Strange Eggs — the 12 km eggs earned by defeating Team Go Rocket leaders Arlo, Cliff, and Sierra — after May 17.
