Fortnite now has dinosaurs, because why not

The dinos are dangerous, but they can be tamed

For its new season, Fortnite went back in time to the Primal era, and now it’s got the dinosaurs to prove it. As part of a new update to the battle royale game, Epic Games brought some new scaly lizards to the Fortnite island to hunt and be hunted.

Just like most AI additions to Fortnite, the dinosaurs aren’t particularly friendly and will attack players if threatened. That isn’t such a bad thing though, since the dinosaurs are also a great source of animal bones, the material that players use to craft and upgrade their weapons in Fortnite season 6.

Of course, if you don’t want to kill the dinosaurs, violence isn’t your only option. If you can get close enough to a wild dino, and survive its attacks, you can tame it and win its affection. Once it’s tamed, you’ll have a friendly dinosaur to follow you around the map and even attack your enemies if they get close enough.

For now, it seems that the only dinosaurs in Fortnite are the quick, raptor-like creatures with the very sharp claws. But, since this is the first time that Epic has introduced dinosaurs to Fortnite, it’s possible we’ll start getting new varieties as the season goes on.

Fortnite season 6 started on March 16, and still has plenty of mysteries left to reveal. With dinosaurs popping up just two weeks into the season, there’s no telling what other ancient creatures or features Epic might bring to its Primal season. Fortnite season 6 is set to last until June 7.
