Chadwick Boseman, who starred in Marvel Studios’ Oscar-winning film Black Panther, has passed away at the age of 43. The AP broke the news of the actor’s death late on Friday night, with a message posted by Boseman’s Twitter account confirming the news.

“It is with immeasurable grief that we confirm the passing of Chadwick Boseman. Chadwick was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016, and battled with it these last 4 years as it progressed to stage IV.”

Before Black Panther, Boseman broke out in two major biopic roles, playing Jackie Robinson in the 2013 film 42 and James Brown in 2014’s Get on Up. While appearing as T’Challa in Marvel films like Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame, he continued to do more grounded work that navigated Black identity and history. Most recently, he appeared as Thurgood Marshall in Marshall and co-starred in a pivotal role in Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods.

According to the update from his Twitter account, Boseman died in his home, with his wife and family by his side.
