Ninja Theory’s critically acclaimed Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is getting a sequel. Announced during The Game Awards tonight, it’s called Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2. Footage from the trailer, embedded above, was captured on the Xbox Series X, which was also revealed this evening. You can watch the trailer, which we’ve embedded above, on YouTube.

Released in 2017, the original Hellblade was created by a team of just 20 developers. It was praised for its narrative structure as well as the performance of actor Melina Juergens. It told the story of Senua, a Pict warrior who travels to the Norse plane of Helheim. The action-adventure game blended elegant motion capture technology with an evocative performance and grim spectacle to create something unique. It was slow to catch on with audiences, but eventually gained a cult following to match its success with critics.

The game was the first ever shown with footage captured on the new Xbox game system, which is scheduled to launch over the holidays in 2020.
