Apex Legends’ latest trailer teases going ‘beyond battle royale’

Apex Legends’ new season is quickly approaching, and it seems that the game may be in for some huge additions this time around. On Thursday, developer Respawn Entertainment released a new trailer for the game that seems to tease a whole new mode that might even be a departure from battle royale.

The trailer starts off with a preview of Valkyrie, Apex’s newest Legend, flying through the sky and taking out her competition. Next we get views of several different shootouts involving almost all of Apex’s characters, with Wraith sneaking up on Caustic to save her squadmate Mirage, or Loba getting the drop on both of them.

As all of the fighting starts to wind down, the trailer cuts to a computer where Ash, a former Apex Predator from Titanfall 2, watches the action unfold. She says that it’s time to “return the legend to where it started, a little underground brutality.” Then she welcomes players to the “Arenas.”

The trailer ends by revealing the title Apex Legends Legacy, then says, “Go beyond battle royale.” For now it’s not quite clear what any of this might mean, but Respawn could be teasing a new Apex Legends mode that’s a little closer to Titanfall’s arena shooter style than the battle royale that most players are used to from the game right now.

The good news is, we won’t have to wait long to find out exactly what’s going on with Arenas. According to the trailer, Respawn will have an official gameplay reveal on Monday, April 26.
