Marvel’s Midnight Suns has been delayed until the second half of 2022, developer Firaxis Games announced Wednesday. The card-driven, turn-based role-playing game was originally slated for release in March.

“We decided to share that we’ve made the very tough decision to move our launch window to the second half of 2022,” Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ development team announced Wednesday via Twitter. “We know many fans were looking forward to playing the game originally next spring, and the decision did not come lightly.”

Creative director Jake Solomon and senior franchise producer Garth DeAngelis said Firaxis Games needed “more time to make this the best game possible.” The extra months of development will be used to “add more story, cinematics and overall polish,” Firaxis said.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns was announced at Gamescom 2021 in August from Firaxis’ XCOM development team. The game’s set in an obscure, supernatural part of the Marvel Comics universe, bringing together a huge variety of different superheroes. A total of 13 heroes will be in the game, pulled from teams like the Avengers, the X-Men, and the Runaways. Players will control The Hunter, who’s described as a new character that was created with Marvel Comics; The Hunter will be customizable in both appearance and combat. Players will be able to choose from more than 40 superpowers, Solomon told Polygon in August.

When the game is released in the second half of 2022 — no exact date was given — it’ll be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
