The first ride-through attraction at a Disney theme park to feature Mickey and Minnie opens on March 4. Just ahead of its debut, we have our first clear look at Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. It looks magical, so magical I can almost forgive it for replacing the Great Movie Ride.
Yes, the new ride takes over Hollywood Studios’ iconic Chinese theater, which was once home to the Great Movie Ride. The setup of the new attraction is simple. Guests are invited to the premiere of Mickey and Minnie’s latest film, Perfect Picnic. The lobby of the theater contains posters of other Mickey and Minnie shorts, which are movies in this cartoon world. While viewing Perfect Picnic in the theater, something goes amiss and guests will be sucked right into the cartoon universe.
The ride will be composed of set pieces, but also scenic illusions, such as a plummet from a waterfall. Other characters like Goofy, Donald Duck, Pluto, and Huey, Dewey, and Louie will appear throughout the ride. Settings include, but are not limited to: underwater, a carnival, a park, and a city.
