Here is the PlayStation 5’s launch lineup

The PlayStation 5 launches Nov. 12, 2020. Sony revealed the date and the price of its newest console in a streaming showcase on Wednesday, along with several games expected at or around the PS5’s arrival.

Only a few games have hard-and-fast launch dates confirmed so far. The rest are listed for 2021 for now, but it’s doubtful Sony would show them in its announcement event if fans wouldn’t be playing them on PlayStation 5 soon.

Here’s everything we know that’s coming on the PS5’s launch date, or in the “launch window” soon after.

PlayStation 5 Launch-Day Games

Demon’s Souls

Bluepoint Games is taking on the “from-the-ground-up” remake of FromSoftware’s 2009 original for PlayStation 3, which spawned the Souls franchise, if not a genre unto itself. This was confirmed as a launch title after Wednesday’s show.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales

There’s been some confusion as to the size and scope of this game; it’s a stand-alone title, and comparable to Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. But it’s not a “full game” in the sense that 2018’s PS4 predecessor Spider-Man was. Still, this is a hard-lock for Nov. 12, 2020 on PlayStation 5 — and PlayStation 4, too.

Godfall

The “looter/slasher” developed by Counterplay Games will launch day-and-date with PlayStation 5, Gearbox Publishing confirmed on Thursday. (It’s also coming to Windows PC via the Epic Games Store.) Counterplay assures everyone that all of the game’s loot and gear is acquired via gameplay, with microtransactions playing no role.

Borderlands 3

Gearbox Software’s loot-shooter gets its next-gen version on the same day as the PS5’s launch (as well as the Xbox Series X). And all players who own the game on PS4 or Xbox One get the upgrade (same console family) free. It includes support for 4K resolution at 60 frames per second, as well as split-screen local multiplayer for up to four players.

Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition

The PlayStation 5 gets a swing at the 2019 hack-and-slash adventure. It’s available from the PlayStation Store and Xbox marketplace on Nov. 12 (and Xbox Series X on Nov. 10). A physical disc version of the game will follow later, Capcom says.

Astro’s Playroom

This pre-loaded game on PlayStation 5 is basically a tour of the console and the new DualSense controller.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure

The latest installment of the 12-year-old platforming series was announced back in June. It launches with the PS5 and costs $59.99.

Fortnite

Epic Games’ blockbuster battle royale will be free-to-play on the PlayStation 5 at launch, with player progression and purchases carrying over to the next-gen console.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla may come out a few days before the PS5, but if you wait to play it you’ll be treated to an upgraded version that’s been specifically updated for next-gen consoles. The upgraded version of the game will come with better graphics, a higher frame-rate, and faster load times, so you won’t have to wait around as you move from one viking raid to the next.

Bugsnax

Bugsnax lets you explore the island of Snaktooth, where magical creatures live that are half-bug, half-snack. The next-gen version of the game comes with all the graphical and performance upgrades you would expect, and it’s available for free to PlayStation Plus subscribers until January, 2021.

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered is a newly updated 4K version of 2019’s superhero epic. As an added bonus, this Remastered version of the game will come free with Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales, so you’ll get double the Spider-Man for your PS5 launch. If you’re part way through the PS4 version of the game already, don’t worry, you can transfer your progress straight over the PS5 and pick up where you left off.

Dead By Daylight

This multiplayer horror game may not be the first thing you thing of when you’re unboxing your new PS5, but Dead By Daylight is getting a full graphical overhaul for the next-gen version, so this is a great time to check it out.

Dirt 5

Codemasters’ rally-racing series has long been impressive both graphically, and as an off-road racing game. Now, the developer is bringing it to PS5 with Dirt 5, which may be one of the next-gen console’s best looking games so far.

Goonya Fighter

Originally released last year for the Nintendo Switch, Goonya Fighter is a quirky little multiplayer fighting game that lets up to four players battle each other in silly slapstick fights.

King Oddball

This game was originally released back in 2014 on PS4 and PlayStation Vita, and its closest comparison might be Angry Birds, except you’re launching boulders at tanks.

Maneater

Maneater is a game about a shark who eats people. You play the shark. That’s about all you need to know. The PS5 version of the game will bring the game up to 4K with 60 FPS, and best of all, it’s free for anyone that already owns the game on PS4.

NBA 2K21

NBA 2K21 was already one of the most technically impressive sports games around and the next-gen version looks even better. The next-gen version of the game will also come with a new mode called The City, that should give players more ways to play off-the-court.

No Man’s Sky

No Man’s Sky’s next update is set to give players even more to discover in the galaxy, but it’s also bringing the game to PS5 where players can explore space with better graphics and faster load times.

Observer: System Redux

This is an update of Team Bloober’s Observer, a psychological horror game from 2017. This newly updated version has been remastered for PS5, which should make it even creepier than the original.

Overcooked! All You Can Eat

Overcooked! and its sequel might be some of the best local co-op of the last generation, and All You Can Eat brings all the great levels from both games forward to PS5.

The Pathless

The Pathless is a game about an archer and an eagle as they explore a vast and beautiful forest. With its unique art style and seemingly massive environment, The Pathless might be one of the few adventure games to hit the PS5 at launch.

Planet Coaster

If you’ve ever wanted to build your own theme parks and roller coasters then Planet Coaster is the game for you. And your gorgeous parks are sure to look even better with the PS5 version’s upgrade to 4K resolution.

Warhammer: Chaosbane Slayer Edition

Warhammer: Choasbane will bring its top-down dungeon crawling to next-gen when the PS5 launches. The new Slayer Edition of the game will include previously released DLC and will bring the game up to 4K resolutions and run at 60 FPS.

Watch Dogs: Legion

Watch Dogs: Legion lets you run loose in London, taking control of every single citizen to build an army capable of taking down a tech monopoly. With its impressively large open world, and near-infinite number of characters, the PS5 version of the game should have huge performance improvements over its last-gen cousins.

WRC 9 FIA World Rally Championship

Developer Kylotonn is bringing another off-road racing series to the PS5’s launch with WRC 9, which should bring some impressive simulation rally racing all at 4K and 60 FPS.

Coming later in 2021

Destruction AllStars

It’s not just car combat—Lucid and XDEV’s Destruction AllStars has plenty of on-foot melees to get into, too.

Hogwarts Legacy

At last, WB Games and Avalanche Studios announced the big Harry Potter game fans have been anticipating. Hogwarts Legacy does not have a launch date (it’s also coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Windows PC), but when it gets here, players will go back to the 1800s to study magic at the famed school of witchcraft and wizardry.

Final Fantasy 16

Final Fantasy 16 is the first mainline entry in the Final Fantasy series in five years. The trailer shown Wednesday involved controlling a single character, as opposed to an adventuring party. No specific release date was given; FF16 arrived in November 2016.

Resident Evil Village

Due sometime in 2021, the eighth main entry in the Resident Evil series will also launch on Xbox Series X and Windows PC. Chris Redfield returns in a game that Capcom says will dwell more on exploration and combat than 2017’s Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, which was more of a survival horror title.

Deathloop

One of the few games that does have a launch window shorter than “next year,” although that’s because Arkane Studios’ Deathloop was originally pegged for a launch in 2020’s last quarter, then got delayed last month. It’s now eyeing a launch in 2021’s second quarter.

God of War: Ragnarok

Not much to say, as this teaser trailer isn’t much more than foreboding music, a lot of chanting, and some runes. Also, a year: 2021.
