itch.io’s Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality tops $5M

itch.io’s Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality has blasted past its initial fundraising goals and hit the $5 million mark. The bundle, which includes more than 1,500 works from at least 1,198 creators, is raising money for the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and the Community Bail Fund. Proceeds will be split 50/50 between the two organizations.

The experimental game distribution platform started the fundraiser last week following nationwide anti-police brutality demonstrations protesting the police killings of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, and the killings of other unarmed black people, like Admaud Arbery, who was shot by two white men while jogging.

“We live in a time of racial injustice, and police brutality against black people,” itch.io wrote in the bundle description. “We hope that everyone takes a stand in any way that they can. We’ve partnered with creators from all across our platform to support organizations that are working directly with those affected.”

As more money is raised, itch.io continues to update the bundle with more games and projects. All people who donated will gain access to these additions, regardless of when they participated. There are four days left to purchase the bundle.
