Final Fantasy 15 has four more episodes coming in 2019

More Comrades, more character customization and just ... more

Square Enix is nowhere near being done with Final Fantasy 15. During a panel at PAX East today (ostensibly about the Windows PC version of the game and mods), Square Enix outlined its roadmap for additional Final Fantasy 15 content.

That plan includes at least two more updates for Comrades, Final Fantasy 15’s online multiplayer mode. The first content update will hit sometime this summer, around the time that Square Enix also plans to release a stand-alone version of Comrades. The mode’s second update will hit in winter 2018.

Comrades’ character customization tools will also be carried over to the single-player campaign, letting players make their own protagonist — at least in the Windows PC version of Final Fantasy 15. The PC version will also get a level editor later this year, and Square Enix showed off an example of a golf game that was built using that editor.

In 2019, Square Enix plans to release four more pieces of episodic content. Here are the details of those four character-focused episodes and what they’ll cover:

  • Episode I: Ardyn — “The Conflict of the Sage”
This story portrays the struggles of Ardyn. Witness the resentment he harbored towards Lucis for over 2,000 years, and his clashes with the Astrals.
  • Episode Side Story: Aranea — “The Beginning of the End”
A side-story about the Starscourge depicted from the Niflheim’s perspective. The final day of the Empire turns out to be Aranea’s worst day.
  • Episode II: Lunafreya — “The Choice of Freedom”
This story’s about Luna’s fate, which not even death can free her from. Her battle to save the one she loves overturns the destiny dealt to the Lucian King.
  • Episode III: Noctis — “The Final Strike”
Parting ways with the Astrals, Noctis embarks upon his final battle in order to attain the ideal future for all his people.

That last episode will feature a “grand alternate finale” for Final Fantasy 15.

In other words, if you thought the Royal Edition of Final Fantasy 15 was the final, final package, there’s still plenty more to come.
