Aquaman and Wonder Woman will bookend DC’s timeline for now

No movies will fit between Batman v Superman and Justice League

Wonder Woman Warner Bros. Pictures

Charles Roven, a producer at Warner Bros. that overlooks the DC Universe (DCEU), has confirmed that Aquaman will take place after the events of Justice League, hinting that nothing could take place between that and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Roven told Cinema Blend that Aquaman will be the first DCEU movie to reflect the events of whatever occurs in Justice League, in the same way Iron Man 3 was the first movie to incorporate moments from The Avengers. Roven explained that because Justice League and Batman v Superman take place so closely after one another, it was nearly impossible to fit another movie in between those two.

James [Wan] definitely knows where he’s going with [Aquaman], and that movie takes place in a world where Justice League happened, and Man of Steel happened, and Wonder Woman obviously takes place before Man of Steel — except for the bookends we have. So that’s where we have the most ability to freeform. We could do a movie that takes place after Justice League, we can do a movie that takes place after Batman v Superman… well not really. You can’t do a movie in between Batman v Superman and Justice League, but we can do movies that take place after Justice League and we can do movies that precede Justice League.

Wonder Woman is the only movie that will be set before 2013’s Man of Steel. Based on the other films that have been announced, it will remain the only title to take place before Man of Steel. Cyborg, The Flash, Batgirl and Gotham City Sirens will all take place within the DCEU, but Roven hasn’t said where these will take place in the timeline.

The next film in the DCEU, Wonder Woman, will be released on June 2.
