Joystiq notes that EA passed on a sequel to Reckoning in the past, and that the IP could even fall into the hands of the state of Rhode Island. Interestingly, their source notes that “Reckoning was developed with EA publishing money, NOT Rhode Island tax dollars” and that “it had nothing to do with the $50 million dollars from RI.” That money instead went to the recently-announced Project Copernicus MMO.Meanwhile, the Providence Journal reports that 38 Studios founder Curt Schilling could lose $50 million of his own money due to the studio’s collapse. According to Schilling, comments by Rhode Island governor Lincoln Chafee calling Reckoning a “failure” caused a publisher interested in Reckoning's sequel to pull out of a $35 million deal that could have financed the project.
In response, Chafee told WPRI that it “isn't accurate to be blaming the state in this case” and that he “won't misrepresent to the Rhode Islanders how dire the situation is.”
Chafee added that he “always had some reservations” about Schilling as a businessperson. Regarding the potential $35 million deal, he said "I have to verify everything. I can't just take it as a leap of faith."
