CBS got big ratings from its Adele concert special on Sunday, outdrawing everything other than the NFL in primetime. The show also drew the biggest Sunday night audience for any network entertainment program so far this season.
Yellowstone remained big for Paramount Network as well and provided a strong launchpad for creator Taylor Sheridan’s new series, Mayor of Kingstown.
Adele One Night Only, which featured the singer performing past hits and songs from her upcoming album 30 — and sitting for an interview with Oprah Winfrey — averaged 10.33 million viewers in Nielsen’s final same-day ratings. That’s well above CBS’ usual tune-in for a Sunday, just behind this year’s Oscars (10.4 million). It’s also the highest viewer total for a CBS entertainment show since Oprah With Meghan and Harry drew more than 17 million viewers in March. Among adults 18-49, One Night Only earned a 1.65 rating, the network’s second-best primetime number of the season, behind only Sunday’s 60 Minutes (1.76, along with a season high 12.55 million viewers).

Adele performed in front of an A-list audience at L.A.’s Griffith Park Observatory — and without a rehearsal, executive producer Ben Winston said in a Clubhouse chat after the show. “We were loading in on a Friday, and there was 100 percent chance of storm on Monday, and there was no way we were going to be able to do this show outdoors. [We thought], Well we have to just not do a rehearsal and we just have to shoot the rehearsal because the first time Adele was able to get on that stage was the day she performed, and you all saw it.”
Sunday Night Football drew 16.74 million viewers to lead primetime for NBC, improving on the same week last year by just shy of a million people.
On cable, Yellowstone held up very well after its record-setting premiere on Nov. 7, bringing in 7.49 million viewers on Paramount Network (and just over 8 million including a simulcast with CMT). The big lead-in audience helped Mayor of Kingstown premiere to 2.6 million viewers. That’s the most for a scripted series premiere on Paramount Network since Yellowstone launched to 2.83 million viewers in August 2018.
