200-Pound Shrek Statue Goes Missing In Small Massachusetts Town, Police Are Investigating

A 200-pound statue of the ogre Shrek from the popular Dreamworks animated movie series has gone missing in a small Massachusetts town, and the police are investigating.

The Hatfield Police Department said on Facebook that the statue on Mountain Road in the western Massachusetts town has gone missing and authorities are asking the public to help find him.

"If you have any information of his current whereabouts please reach out to our department or return him in the condition you found him," the police department said. "The dragon sculpture he lives with is frustrated and lonely."

A spokesperson for the Hatfield Police Department told Boston.com that the statue is "iconic" in the small town of just over 3,000 people. The owner told authorities that the statue is worth about $500, but the owner said "it's priceless," and after seeing the image, we have to agree.

"It's not something that could be easily moved around," a police spokesperson said. "There are evident drag marks that he did not go willingly. The owner is devastated that he's gone and would really like him to come back."

2001's Shrek features Mike Myers as the voice of the lovable ogre, with Eddie Murphy playing his sidekick Donkey and Cameron Diaz as Princess Fiona. The movie spawned multiple sequels, including the Puss in Boots movie series, and wonderful memes. The Shrek series ended with 2010's Shrek Forever After, but a Shrek 5 film could happen one day. Recently, Murphy said he would love to come back to voice Donkey again, but hopefully in his own Donkey spinoff.

The latest entry in the Shrek cinematic universe, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, released in December and has earned more than $340 million worldwide.
