Royal Blood Splashes at No. 1 In U.K. With ‘Typhoons’
There’s a new No. 1 on the Official U.K. Singles Chart as Tion Wayne and Russ Millions’ “Body” becomes the first drill track to lead the survey.
Royal Blood’s Typhoons (Warner Records) is a force of nature on the U.K. albums chart, where it bows at No. 1 by outselling the rest of the Top 5 combined.
Typhoons rips through the week with 32,000 chart sales, including 24,000 on physical formats and the most digital downloads of the cycle, the OCC reports, for the biggest opening week for a British act in 2021.
It’s the alternative rock duo’s third leader following 2014’s self-titled debut and 2017’s How Did We Get So Dark?.
The Brighton pair lead a Top 10 crammed with new releases. Merseyside act The Coral snag a sixth Top 10 LP and highest-chart position in 18 years with Coral Island (Run On), new at No. 2.
Mick Fleetwood & Friends’ live tribute Celebrating The Music of Peter Green (BMG) debuts at No. 3, just ahead of British singer Birdy, whose Young Heart (Atlantic) flies in at No. 4.

Gojira, the French metal band, score their first Top 10 album with Fortitude (Roadrunner), new at No. 6, just ahead of Norwegian DIY singer-songwriter Girl in Red‘s debut effort If I Could Make It Go Quiet (No. 7 via Marie Ulven), and Pink Floyd’s Live at Knebworth 1990 (No. 8 via Rhino).
Completing the Top 10 is DJ Khaled’s digital-only 12th studio set Khaled Khaled. It’s the most-streamed album of the week, according to the OCC, for the Miami producer’s fourth Top 10.

“Body” lifts 4-1 on scoring 71,000 chart sales, including 10.7 million streams, thanks in part to a remix featuring Bugzy Malone, Fivio Foreign, Darkoo, Buni, ArrDee, and E1 & ZT.
“Over 69 years, the Official Singles Chart has seen a multitude of different genres pioneering a new Number 1 sound,” comments Martin Talbot, CEO of the Official Charts Company. “The fantastic achievement this week of Tion Wayne and Russ Millons marks a brand new high point for drill and perhaps the beginning of a new era for the Official Singles Chart.”
With the “Body” blow, Lil Nas X’s “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” falls after five weeks at the summit, down 1-2; while Doja Cat’s “Kiss Me More” (Ministry of Sound) featuring SZA rises 6-3, a new peak.
Finally, Billie Eilish bags this week’s highest new entry with “Your Power” (Interscope). It’s new at No. 5 for the U.S. pop star’s seventh U.K. Top 10.
