Did Machine Gun Kelly & Blackbear Set a Record With Their Yearlong Stay Outside the Hot 100 Top 10?

On the new Pop Shop Podcast, we open the Ask Billboard mailbag to answer your chart questions, including about the staying power of "My Ex's Best Friend."

Machine Gun Kelly‘s “My Ex’s Best Friend,” featuring blackbear, just fell off the Billboard Hot 100 after 52 weeks — so the Tickets to My Downfall single spent a full year on the chart. Surprisingly, however, even after that long stay, it never hit the chart’s top 10.

Just how rare is that? That’s exactly what Brian C. Cole wanted to know, and we answer his question and more on a new “Ask Billboard” edition of the Pop Shop Podcast. Cole asked: “Did Machine Gun Kelly and blackbear’s ‘My Ex’s Best Friend’ make any history by spending a year on the Billboard Hot 100 despite peaking outside the chart’s top 10?”

As it turns out, it’s one of only seven songs to do just that — and all seven were at least top 20 hits on the Hot 100, peaking between Nos. 11 and 20.  To hear the full answer, check out this week’s show below:

Also on the “Ask Billboard” episode, we wish Demi Lovato a belated 29th birthday (Aug. 20) by recapping their top-selling album, most-streamed song and biggest hit on U.S. radio (thanks for the question, William Silva!) and discuss pop stars who have had Hot 100 No. 1s as both an artist and a songwriter for other people, just like Charlie Puth is currently experiencing with The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber‘s “Stay” (an astute observation from Pablo Nelson!).
