Blackpink crossed over into rarified territory on Monday (April 13) when their YouTube channel subscriber count passed the 60 million mark. The K-pop girl group are now within spitting distance of Justin Bieber, the most-followed musician on YouTube with 62.4 million subscribers.
According to the South Korean news agency Yonhap, the group’s new YT high water mark also gives them the record for the biggest account based in South Korea and the second-largest among global artists; their agency, YG Entertainment, also noted that their cumulative video views to date are north of 17 billion.
Among the quartet’s most popular videos are the clips for 2018 single “Ddu-du Ddu-Du” with more than 1.5 billion views and 2019’s “Kill This Love” with 1.2 billion views. They earned the crown of most-subscribed female artist on YouTube last July when they galloped past Ariana Grande, who is currently fourth on the subscriber count at 47.7 million, just behind Marshmello with 52.2 million.
Member Rosé reportedly broke her own YT record recently when her debut solo single, “On the Ground,” earned the honor of most YT views in 24 hours by a solo K-pop artist with 41.6 million. The big numbers for Rosé broke a decade-long record held by South Korean flash-in-the-pan Psy, whose 2012 smash “Gangnam Style” piled up 36 million views in its first 24 hours.
