Mammoth WVH Scores Second Mainstream Rock Airplay No. 1 With ‘Don’t Back Down’

The Wolfgang Van Halen-led band is the first act to send its first two songs to No. 1 on the chart since The Glorious Sons in 2019.

Mammoth WVH earns its second leader on Billboard‘s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart in as many tries, as the Wolfgang Van Halen-led act’s “Don’t Back Down” rises 2-1 on the chart dated Sept. 11.

The coronation follows the two-week reign in February and March of the group’s “Distance,” which was written in tribute to Van Halen’s late father and rock legend Eddie Van Halen.

Mammoth WVH is the first act to notch No. 1s on Mainstream Rock Airplay in its first two appearances since The Glorious Sons, who doubled up with “S.O.S. (Sawed Off Shotgun)” (four weeks, beginning in January 2019) and “Panic Attack” (two, October 2019).
