The Witcher 3 received today a new update on PlayStation 4, fixing some issues that have been introduced by the previous update.

The Witcher 3 1.62 update, now live in all regions, brings a fix for the reduced foliage draw distance on PlayStation 4 Pro in 4K resolution. The update also includes some unspecified minor fixes.

The Witcher 3 Update 1.62 Patch Notes

Increases draw distance for foliage while using 4K on PS4 Pro.
Added minor fixes.

The reduced foliage draw distance was highlighted by Digital Foundry shortly after the previous update released. While HDR implementation was a welcome addition, the issues introduced by the patch made the experience inferior to the Xbox One X one due to the increase of pop-in of grass and other issues related to shadows.

But the price to pay on PS4 Pro for this upgrade is significant: curiously, draw distances for foliage and shadows are visibly dialed back on 1.61 – notably on the console’s 4K output mode. This leads to more pop-in of grass – almost as if it’s sprouting from the ground a few metres ahead, while more shadows visibly fade in ahead of Geralt during traversal.

The Witcher 3 is now out on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in all regions.
