The massive hack of Leslie Jones‘ website is being handled by Homeland Security Investigations, an FBI spokeswoman told The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday.
Jones’ official website was hacked on Wednesday, and information, including scans of her driver’s license and passport, along with nude photos, were posted. A racist video was also posted to the site, which has since been deactivated.
A spokeswoman for the FBI field office in New York said the agency is not involved in the investigation. A Los Angeles FBI spokeswoman said that office is also not involved.
Homeland Security Investigations offered no additional information on the investigation.
Jones, star of the recent Ghostbusters reboot, has been terrorized through social media with vile, racist messages and pictures since the Sony film hit theaters last month.
The bullying got so bad, Jones left social media for a while. She came back after the co-founder of Twitter, Jack Dorsey, personally stepped in and banned the accused ringleader of the Jones trolls, Milo Yiannopoulos.
The hack of Jones’ site appeared to be retaliation by supporters of Yiannopoulos over him being banned from Twitter, according to references made on the hacked site before it was taken down.
In a statement to THR, Yiannopoulos responded: “I’m distressed to hear that Leslie Jones has been hacked and naked pictures of her have been posted online. I know we had our differences after my review of Ghostbusters but I wish her all the best at what must be a deeply upsetting time.”
Jones has not made a comment since the hack.
Numerous celebrities have come out in support of Jones and blasted the perpetrators of the harassment and hack.
On Thursday afternoon, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton also expressed her support for Jones, tweeting “No one deserves this—least of all someone who brings us so much joy. I’m with you.”
