Avengers: Infinity War certainly isn't short for superheroes and while we think we know the teams, we don't know who – if anyone – the movie will focus on.

You'd be forgiven for thinking that even with the arrival of the Guardians, Spider-Man and more, Infinity War might still choose to focus on the superhero that kickstarted it all in Iron Man, but you'd be wrong. (It's not Hawkeye, sorry guys.)

Co-director Joe Russo has revealed to Fandango that it's actually the villain of the piece, Thanos, who has the most screen time in the massive movie – with some focus on Thor and Gamora too.

"Interestingly enough, I'll start out by saying Thanos, even though he's not a character that had a huge pre-existing story in the Marvel universe. He was a threat but he was not developed in any way up to this point," he explained.

"Thanos has an incredible amount of screen time in this film, in a lot of ways I would say it's his movie. Our job when we make these films – and what we feel is important to us – is to surprise the audience. We wanted to tell a story that they weren't expecting, and the story is told from the point of view of a villain, which I think is also really unique and risky for a commercial film."

Joe added that the Marvel audience will back Infinity War's "innovation and disruption", but it won't all be the Thanos show, as a certain Asgardian king and alien assassin also have a large amount of screen time.

"I think you'll find that Thor has a really interesting arc in the film. He hasn't been at the forefront of other Avengers movies but he certainly has a very important role in this," he teased.

We just hope Thor's important role isn't to die at the hands of Thanos as teased in the new trailer, potentially spurring the Avengers on to avenge him.

"I think you could argue, too, that a lot of the film is told from the point of view of Gamora, and I think she has a really fascinating arc in the movie," Joe continued.

The latest trailer revealed that will will see a flashback to Gamora's childhood with her adoptive father.

Following the release of the new trailer, Avengers: Infinity War was quick to break a box office record, taking just six hours to best Batman v Superman's record for the most amount of pre-sale tickets for any comic book movie.

We just have a feeling that Infinity War might be big.

Avengers: Infinity War lands in UK cinemas on April 26 and US cinemas on April 27.
