Pitchfork is honored to announce that we've won the 2013 National Magazine Award for General Excellence in Digital Media. It was Pitchfork's first Ellie nomination, and our first win.
If you'll indulge us for a moment, we'd like to mention how proud all of us are of this award. We all love and care about music, and always feel fortunate to spend our days (and often long nights) thinking about, reporting on, and engaging with this ever-expanding world. Right now, we are overflowing with gratitude. We're thankful to the judges from the American Society of Magazine Editors who voted for us, and above all to our readers, who rely on us for music guidance and information. Thank you.
At the awards presentation last night, other winners included New York for Magazine of the Year, The Atlantic for Website, Slate for Columns and Commentary, and National Geographic for General Excellence in the Print category among news, sports, and entertainment magazines. The National Magazine Awards were established in 1966 to honor print (and now, digital) publications that "consistently demonstrate superior execution of editorial objectives, innovative techniques, noteworthy journalistic enterprise and imaginative art direction." The awards are sponsored by the American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) in association with the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and are administered by ASME.
