During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Ryan Murphy revealed that Season 7 of American Horror Story will be based on the recent election.
“Well I don’t have a title, but the season we begin shooting in June is going to be about the election that we just went through. So I think that will be interesting for a lot of people,” the producer revealed.
When asked if there would be a character based on Donald Trump, Murphy, who was there to promote his upcoming series Feud, replied, “Maybe.”
During last month’s TCAs, FX CEO John Landgraf said that he knew what the seventh season was about, though he didn’t reveal any information, only saying that he was “really excited” about it. As of now, the seventh installment will include Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters.
Last season’s theme for Roanoke was kept in secrecy up until the premiere, surprising fans with twists and turns along the way. Its finale saw an almost 10% rise in total viewers and 18% jump among adults 18-49 from the finale of AHS: Hotel with an audience of 2.45 million and a 1.3 rating. The series also was renewed for an eighth and ninth season.
Additionally, earlier today Edgar Ramirez and Darren Criss were cast in Versace: American Crime Story, the third installment in Murphy’s second anthology series for FX. Ramirez is set to play Gianni Versace, with Criss taking on the role of sociopath and serial killer Andrew Cunanan.
Murphy’s third anthology series for the network, Feud, premieres March 5. The first season, titled Feud: Bette and Joan, stars Susan Sarandon as Bette Davis and Jessica Lange as Joan Crawford, and centers around their infamous backstage battle during the filming of their 1962 film What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?.
