In talking to the press today about Snowden, Shailene Woodley addressed the latest headlines about Lionsgate’s Divergent Series: Ascendant potentially skipping a theatrical release and being made into a TV movie, particularly after the last film Divergent Series: Allegiant stumbled at the box office, making $66M stateside.
“Honestly, I was on a plane when all that happened and I landed, and I’m like Whoa, what’s going on?!” In regards to whether she’d be part of the new incarnation of Divergent as dsytopian future teen rebel Tris, Woodley wouldn’t say. It’s all news to her.
“I need to talk and find out what the details are,” said Woodley about Lionsgate’s plans for the conclusion of the feature adaptation of the Veronica Roth series. Lionsgate decided to split the author’s controversial final installment of the Divergent series into two movies, particularly in the wake of its success with Twilight: Breaking Dawn and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay.
In Open Road’s Snowden, which is likely to make a stop at the Toronto International Film Festival, Woodley plays Edward Snowden’s girlfriend Lindsay Mills.
Expounded Woodley on Mills, who she met in preparing for the Oliver Stone film, “She’s incredibly strong. She didn’t know what was happening (with Edward) or otherwise she would have been in a vulnerable position. For someone who didn’t choose the press or to be put in a public situation, to remain strong in the face of adversity, to let rumor and gossip without her approval – that’s a lot of pressure. When I met her, she seemed grounded, strong, optimistic. She’s been able to attain who she is among the whirlwind of the mass media.”
