Dbbrand’s Companion Cube Wrap Brings a Playful Look to Valve’s Steam Machine
Accessory maker dbrand has revealed a Companion Cube wrap created for the new Steam Machine, and the item is already listed in the company’s limited‑edition shop. Visitors can register on the product page to receive an alert when the shell becomes available for purchase.
The Steam Machine’s standard form is deliberately minimal — a compact, matte black chassis that serves as a blank canvas. Early footage for the 2026 device hinted at interchangeable faceplates but didn’t show a full‑body skin. dbrand, which has long produced console skins and protective Killswitch cases, is well positioned to expand that lineup; the Companion Cube is likely just the first of several third‑party accessories for the Steam Machine, its controller, and the Steam Frame.
In an interview with The Verge, dbrand CEO Adam Ijaz said the company is also developing two other designs — a Minecraft block and a GameCube motif. He explained the Companion Cube is intended as a removable shell that fastens to the Steam Machine’s chassis without obstructing air intakes or the rear exhaust.
Beyond the product image and a tentative 2026 release window, few technical details are available. That ambiguity mirrors the broader uncertainty around the Steam Machine’s own launch date.
Price has not been announced, but dbrand’s existing catalog offers some context: the company’s hardshell PlayStation 5 case retails for $79.90, while the Nintendo Switch 2 Killswitch lists at $59.95. Given the Steam Machine’s relatively compact footprint, it’s reasonable to expect the Companion Cube’s price to land somewhere between those figures, though that remains speculative until dbrand confirms specifics.
Ijaz described the Steam Machine as “an excellent canvas for creativity,” and dbrand’s Companion Cube—playful, compact, and easily applied—appears to be the first of what may become a variety of stylistic takes on Valve’s new hardware.
