Player housing — a feature fans have asked for for years — will be an important early experiment. Blizzard will watch how people use housing and which elements resonate most, then adapt future updates accordingly. “We’ll be watching closely from launch and beyond to see how we can best empower our players,” Hazzikostas adds.

“How folks choose to use housing and the ways they connect through it will heavily influence our roadmap in the years ahead. The same applies to other aspects of WoW,” he says.

Beyond housing, Midnight is shaking up combat by deactivating several popular third-party combat addons and introducing official mechanics to fill that space. The landscape is shifting, and the developers appear ready to let player feedback steer the next direction.

Midnight’s take on Monolith’s Nemesis system grew out of a War Within feature Blizzard initially questioned—”we weren’t sure how people would react.”
