NetEase Games hinted at one of the X-Men’s most famous pairings — Rogue and Gambit — just days ago. With the reveal trailer for Season 5, their arrival in the free-to-play hero shooter has now been officially confirmed.
“Love is a Battlefield,” the new trailer from NetEase Games and Marvel, offers our first clear look at what Season 5 will deliver: the X-Men duo Rogue and Gambit as playable characters. The clip also suggests that Lenore Zann and A.J. LoCascio — the original voice actors from X-Men ’97 — have joined the game’s cast, and fans are understandably excited. Watch the trailer on YouTube.
Players are particularly pleased that the characters stay faithful to their X-Men ’97 appearances — voices included. One fan shouted, “IT’S THE SAME VOICE ACTORS FROM X‑MEN ’97,” while another added, “Usually Marvel Rivals redesigns characters a lot, but these two pretty much look like their ’97 selves. Love it.”

Other commenters joked, “We’re back — but we never actually left.” The trailer stops short of showing Rogue or Gambit in combat, so their playstyles remain speculative. Fans expect Gambit to hurl charged playing cards as ranged attacks, and many theorize the pair could fit the Vanguard or Duelist archetypes depending on how the developers design their kits.
According to the trailer, Marvel Rivals Season 5 launches on November 14. Typically, one of the season’s two new heroes is released with the main update, while the second arrives a few weeks later. NetEase hasn’t announced whether Rogue or Gambit will be the first to debut; plenty of players say they’re hoping Rogue arrives first.
