Virtus.pro, once a leading force in the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive esports scene, is retiring its CS:GO team from competition “until further notice.” The team, infamously dubbed ‘The Plow’, plummeted down the leaderboard following a roster shuffle which saw Wiktor ‘TaZ’ Wojtas, Janusz ‘Snax’ Pogorzelski and Pawel ‘byali’ Bielinski leave the lineup.
A short announcement on the team’s website confirms that the drastic step was taken “due to latest tournament performance”. After being relegated in the Faceit London Major in September, Virtus.pro finished fifth at the Blast Pro Series in Istanbul, did not make the main stage of Epicenter 2018, and did not qualify for the next ESL Pro League season.
However, Virtus.pro fans can take heart that the team may return in 2019, and it may not be long before we hear further. Virtus.pro general manager Roman Dvoryankin says “the long-term strategy for us is to build a competitive team around young players”, and the announcement – which you can read here – promises that “we will announce our next steps by the end of the year.”
The team was expected to play against AGO next week for a spot at WESG 2019, but it now looks as if they will forfeit that match.
