Viewpoint was originally published by Sammy — a company now folded into Sega — and 2064 was shown at Nintendo’s Space World in 1999. The title never received an official cancellation notice, but public-facing promotion stopped around 2000. Preservationists suspect the N64 market had contracted enough that producing cartridges for Viewpoint 2064 was no longer commercially viable.
Developer Racdym went on to become Racjin, a studio that later contributed to projects such as the cozy RPG Fantasy Life and Nintendo’s Mario & Luigi: Brothership. Thanks to the recent preservation effort, another piece of the studio’s history has been recovered and can be experienced again.
