The Upcoming 007 Game Has Been Delayed

IO Interactive has announced a slight shift in the mission schedule for its upcoming James Bond prequel, 007 First Light. Originally slated to arrive on March 27, 2026, the title has been pushed back by two months. Aspiring secret agents will now be able to earn their license to kill on May 27, 2026.

While delays are often met with disappointment, the move strategically avoids an exceptionally congested month for major gaming releases.

“As an independent developer and publisher, this decision allows us to ensure the experience meets the level of quality you players deserve on day one,” Hakan Abrak, CEO of IO Interactive, explained in a statement shared across social media. The studio emphasized that the additional development time will be used to “polish and refine” the gameplay, ensuring the debut is as seamless and impactful as possible. Until recently, moving a high-profile release into May 2026 would have been considered a significant risk due to the looming shadow of Grand Theft Auto VI. However, since Rockstar Games rescheduled its titan for a November 19, 2026, launch, IO Interactive and other mid-year publishers now have significantly more breathing room to capture the audience’s attention.

007 First Light centers on a younger, more inexperienced James Bond in a completely original origin story. Patrick Gibson, known for Dexter: Original Sin, takes on the mantle of the iconic spy. Players can expect to encounter reimagined versions of series staples like M and Q, alongside a fresh cast of characters, including a central villain portrayed by Lenny Kravitz.

007 First Light is scheduled for release next May on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Windows PC, and the Nintendo Switch 2.
