With artists releasing songs at a fast and furious pace, it’s difficult for the average hip-hop head to keep track of it all—no matter how tapped in they are. That’s why we created The Ones, a daily post to highlight the song you need to hear.

Tony Tone – “Conjunctions”

Hooks aren’t Tony Tone’s thing. The Texas rapper is going to spit, and he only stops to catch a breath, letting the silky loop ride. His style came into its own on the short Roper Williams-produced EP Its Been a Long Week, and it continues on “Conjunctions.” Here, Tony Tone’s slick, nimble flow threads together deeper thoughts with jokes that could have once been A$AP Yams tweets: “Yo bitch bought me Air Maxes and I don’t ever wear ’em.” Though it starts out soothing, the lilbowpete instrumental amps up the intensity with the sudden introduction of triumphant horns, which make it feel like Tony Tone is kicking a radio freestyle, flowing over whatever comes.
