The Chop Shop update has arrived in GTA Online, and it introduces a new illegal business for enterprising criminals. Yusuf Amir, who you may remember from the Grand Theft Auto 4 expansion The Ballad of Gay Tony, is now in San Andreas. He helps the players set up a new salvage yard that doubles as an illicit chop shop. Yusuf and his cousin will task the player with stealing various high end cars, which can be either sold whole or dismantled for valuable scrap.
There are five locations for the salvage yard, depending on what part of the map the player would like to call home, and the yard can be upgraded over time with trade rates and a new tow truck profession. According to Rockstar, these new car robberies require a certain flair for the dramatic. Some of them require disguises and undercover work, while others need good hacking or driving skills.
The Chop Shop also introduces lots of new vehicles to steal, from sleek supercars to multi-purpose SUVs. With a little bit of elbow grease, players can even acquire cop cars to cause some exciting chaos. There are also more animals around San Andreas, and a new battle rifle available at the armory.
We’ll be waiting quite a while yet to see Grand Theft Auto 6, which is currently set to release some time in 2025. Until then, GTA Online is the best thing we have for brand new campaign content. It’s interesting to see Rockstar bring back old characters from the franchise’s past.
The Chop Shop update released on Dec. 12, and is available on all platforms.
