The designers behind Outcast: A New Beginning are billing the follow up, introducing today some 25 years after the trailblazing initial, as a ray of sunlight in the middle of a pattern towards games with dark, dystopian visions of the future.
In a meeting with GamesRadar+, THQ Nordic manufacturer Andreas Schmiedecker defined the initial Outcast game as “an open-world game before there were any other open-world games.” Now, its follow up is out in the wild, and Schmiedecker wishes its hopeful tale and dynamic environment will certainly make the lengthy, long haul worth it.
“I think in this day and age we see a lot of dystopian and rather dark versions of the future,” Schmiedecker claimed. “One thing that’s different about Outcast is its brighter outlook, both in story, and in its art style. It is mostly connected to this beautiful world that is called Adelpha. Both the plants and animals, but also the Talans, who live there, are very unique and fantastic. We tried to make it both familiar to Earth, but also feel very alien.”
As somebody that obtains his delights from scary games and motion pictures, Schmiedecker is talking right to my spirit right here. The discreetly dismaying impacts of residing in such bleak, helpless digital globes for hours each week isn’t something to reject instantly, especially if you’re inclined to anxiety and/or anxiousness. It’s something I’ve discussed previously and a large factor I often tend to incline JRPGs, yet Outcast: A New Beginning is beginning to appear quite appealing currently for a comparable factor.
The follow up takes returning lead character Cutter Slade, that’s been reanimated by the almighty Yods – yes, Yods – back to the large unusual globe of Adelpha just to uncover its residents confined and the globe removed of its natural deposits. Naturally, as the only previous Navy Seal about, it’s your work to place points best and conserve the globe once more.
You’ll utilize a jetback to leap, air-dash, and slide your means all over the world, and you’ll integrate lots of distinct components to set out a tool that fits your choice for freing earths of aggressive robotic intruders. Schmiedecker informed us there are “light RPG elements” like ability trees and NPC discussion, yet it’s extremely an open-world activity game at its core.
Outcast: A New Beginning is out currently on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and computer.
