Slatoff noted Fergusson’s background on high-profile titles such as Gears of War and Diablo, then added: “BioShock is a very important franchise for us. It’s one of our biggest franchises, and we’re very excited about the release of the next BioShock.” He said personnel shifts — including Fergusson’s appointment and the wave of reported layoffs — were part of reshaping the team. Now, he believes, “the game is on a great track…”

Despite those assurances, the project’s long, uneven development has left many fans skeptical. Reports indicate the game spent years in development difficulties, including an internal review that criticized its story, and restructuring and layoffs have contributed to doubts. Still, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has pledged the title will be completed — and hopes remain that it will live up to the lofty promises.
