
During the Q&A portion of the call, Zelnick elaborated on his view that Borderlands 4 could generate stronger sales over time than its initial launch figures suggest.
He conceded the launch was “softer than we would have liked,” acknowledging that the game’s PC performance issues likely dampened early sales.
Zelnick added that Gearbox is actively addressing the PC problems. He said the company recognizes there were aspects they could have handled better and intends to apply those lessons going forward. Over the long term, Take-Two expects unit sales and the game’s financial performance to meet their forecasts.
That said, Borderlands 4 has still posted notable commercial achievements: it set several U.S. records for Gearbox as the fastest-selling entry in the franchise, became the first in the series to debut as the month’s top-selling game, and ranked among the best-selling titles of 2025 — even if Take-Two had hoped for an even stronger launch.
