
The game has now been delayed twice — first moving to May 26, 2026, and more recently to November 19, 2026 — and Rockstar also announced the departure of more than 30 staff members last month. The studio stated the layoffs were tied to leaks of “confidential information” and later said those firings were unrelated to the delay, but the combination of setbacks has reignited concerns about the studio’s future and the direction of the franchise.
At Take-Two’s financial results conference, Zelnick defended the choice to delay, stressing the company’s commitment to delivering as polished an entertainment experience as possible and to meeting — then exceeding — players’ high expectations. He added that the team has “never regretted” buying additional development time, a precedent many fans hope continues through GTA 6’s eventual release.
After another GTA 6 postponement, the lead developer of Palworld warned that many games — especially AAA releases — may adjust their schedules to avoid clashing with the 2027 awards season.
