Watch On

Motorslice leans more toward Prince of Persia than a pure Mirror’s Edge runner: traversal puzzles and measured platforming slightly outweigh constant sprinting. You’ll time rolls to soften landings and slide beneath obstacles to keep momentum, but you’ll also take moments to survey the environment and map a route up and onward. There’s a sonar-like scanner that highlights collectibles — small drones you’ll lose if you die — and combat so far is concise and fast, a matter of managing spacing and choosing when to strike rather than relying on flawless dodge timing.

The core movement feels great, which matters hugely here. You’ll swing from poles, slide down ramps, and hack at oddly cute miniature backhoes that can one-shot you. I particularly like the way cinematic black bars crawl in from the top and bottom on a brutal fall — a neat touch that sells P’s discomfort as much as your own.

By the demo’s climax the Shadow of the Colossus influence becomes obvious: a towering, climb-to-kill encounter against a gargantuan mining truck with tires the size of moons. The visuals and sound design are pleasant, and with a bit more refinement the parkour could become exceptional — Motorslice is already on my Steam wishlist.

Finish that 100% Silksong run quickly: I’ve found another unmissable Metroidvania launching next month, and its Steam Next Fest demo is one of the best I’ve played.
