“Soul Train,” the legendary musical selection present that ran from 1971 to 2006, is coming to Broadway, as Deadline studies. The musical will comply with the story of “Soul Train” host and creator Don Cornelius, and have over 20 hits songs from the present’s tenure. Questlove is slated to government produce the present alongside Cornelius’ son Tony, amongst others.
According to Deadline, the musical will hit Broadway in 2021 to coincide with the 50th anniversary of “Soul Train”’s premiere. Playwright Dominique Morisseau, director Kamilah Forbes, and choreographer Camille A. Brown have been tapped for the venture’s main inventive group.
“With many years of experience working directly with my father, I’m forever grateful and deeply humbled by the impact ‘Soul Train’ has had on the culture at large both here and abroad,” Tony Cornelius instructed Deadline. “For 37 years, and with purpose, through music, dance and style, ‘Soul Train’ brought Love, Peace & Soul to a national audience.”
“Soul Train” was a revolutionary program that featured dancing and dwell performances from all kinds of African American artists together with Sly and the Family Stone, James Brown, Tina Turner, Jackson 5, Curtis Mayfield, and numerous different musical icons. Don Cornelius died in 2012 on the age of 75.
