Rumors: More Details on iPhone 16 Pro Camera Features
According to the latest leak, the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max will be able to record video in 4K at 120 FPS (the iPhone 15 is currently limited to 4K 60 FPS). This year, the cameras on both the smaller and larger Pro models will be completely identical. When connected to an external storage device, users will also be able to shoot ProRes 4K 120 FPS. The QuickTake mode, which allows recording video from photo mode, will be updated to allow 4K recording (previously only up to 1080p).
Sources indicate that Apple has also been testing 8K recording. The primary and ultra-wide-angle modules, as well as the A18 Pro chip, are already capable of supporting 8K recording; however, the telephoto lens will still be limited to 4K, so Apple may reserve 8K support for the iPhone 17 Pro.
It has also been revealed that the new Capture button on the body, used for photos and videos, can be utilized in third-party apps that work with the camera. More details about the button functionality: the button will be touch-sensitive, a simple press will open the Camera app or a third-party shooting app of the user’s choice, a light touch will activate autofocus, a hard press will take a photo or start recording video, and swiping across the button’s surface will adjust zoom or exposure.
Other interesting features: support for JPEG-XL format, the ability to pause and resume video recording in the Camera app, wind noise reduction from video recordings, several new photographic styles with enhanced machine learning for skin tone preservation, a new mode for capturing spatial photos that can be viewed in 3D on Apple Vision Pro.
The official announcement of the iPhone 16 lineup, as well as new Apple Watches and AirPods, will take place tomorrow, September 9.
