“We also have other games planned,” Gibson continues. “Our main time concern — something we’ve discussed before — is mortality. If you spend seven years on a project and perhaps add a couple more, the years add up. It would be great to make a few more games while we can, barring any unexpected tragedy.”

Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii, now in his seventies, has likewise acknowledged his mortality while expressing a hope to see Dragon Quest’s 50th anniversary in 2036. Perhaps, if fortune allows, these creators will one day understand Emily Dickinson’s line: “Because I could not stop for Death — He kindly stopped for me.”
