
Miyamoto said, “It’s natural for Super Mario to keep evolving as new digital technology appears,” and, despite the series branching into films and other media, he wants to “retain its interactive, digital essence.” He added that as long as the team “doesn’t forget Mario’s core—running and jumping—while introducing new elements, the character will likely be with us for a long time.”
Miyamoto also commented that when a new technology is compelling, incorporating it can expand and deepen the fun—comparing the process to rolling snow to build a snowman. Koji Kondo, who has composed for nearly every mainline Mario game, said he hopes to still be contributing music to the series decades from now.
