In the recorded statement, Jardine tells MPs she has constituents among those dismissed. “I declare an interest because I have an employee who works for the company I’m about to mention, though they are not affected by the actions taken. That company is video game company Rockstar, which has fired at least 30 employees across its UK studios, including Rockstar North in Edinburgh,” she says.

“Several of my constituents have been affected and some came to see me last week to raise their concerns. They say they were dismissed after trying to organise and for discussing workplace conditions in private,” Jardine continues. “Rockstar, however, has accused them of sharing confidential information and has dismissed them for gross misconduct.” The MP adds that she has written to the studio seeking further details.

“I have written to Rockstar and asked for information on the issue,” Jardine concludes, “and I have asked to meet the relevant minister to discuss what steps can be taken to support the affected employees.” Her request appears to have found a receptive ear: Sir Alan Campbell, Leader of the House of Commons, has indicated he will raise the matter with ministers to explore possible responses.

“The sector she references is important for economic growth, but workers’ rights matter just as much,” Sir Alan Campbell says. “Successful companies provide decent rights and conditions for their employees. I will raise this with ministers to see what, if any, action can be taken to resolve the situation.”

GamesRadar+ has contacted the Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain for comment; at the time of writing the union had not responded. We will update this story when further information becomes available.

This is not the first time Rockstar’s affairs have drawn parliamentary attention — news of the GTA 6 delay reached the Polish parliament only days earlier.
